The way to overcome vasanas without suppression is meditation, refection, restraint and discipline. That is the only way. Recognize what your desire is: see the negative fallout and the positive fallout. Deal with the negative fallout, harness the positive fallout, ignore what is not needed, grab on to what you feel will help you objectively, and in this way select the vasanas you want to fulfil.
It is no use saying there are plenty of vasanas. Of course there are plenty of vasanas, yet you have the ability to be selective. Be selective. When you go to a restaurant you get a menu. A thousand and one items are written there: they are all your vasanas, each one is available for a price. Out of the thousand items on the menu you select four, five, six and you live those vasanas and forget about the other ones that you have not selected. They are on the menu and you can select them at any time. So enjoy your present meal.
