To convert sentiments into devotion, first let the intellect retire – suspend it, dismiss it. In spiritual life, reasoning, arguments and intellect do not work because the search is for something unseen, for which there is no proof. There is no chart saying, “Go this way.” There is no timetable, no way is known. Is God a woman or a man? Is God a man or an animal? Is God there or not? If it is void, what is void? If it is nirguna, without qualities, what does that mean? God is not the subject of argument or intellect. God is the subject of emotion, which changes into devotion. Highest love is the form of devotion.
